A place for the stories that made this town
Local history often starts with something small: a family photograph, a familiar building, or a memory someone takes the time to share.
The Los Alamitos Museum gives those connections a home. The Museum’s own history says it occupies the former Los Alamitos Volunteer Fire Station. It was dedicated on October 25, 1975, and opened with exhibits on April 26, 1976.
Those dates help explain why preserving a town’s story is ongoing work. Opening the doors is one milestone; keeping people curious about what’s inside is another.
With the Museum’s 50th celebration coming Sunday, November 8, this is a good week to think about what we hope the next generation will know about Los Alamitos. The places we gathered? The businesses we relied on? The people who always showed up?
We’d love to hear the memory you would put in a neighborhood time capsule. We’ll seek permission before sharing anyone’s personal story.
